Celebration of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
The celebration of Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of the Slavic alphabet and the Slavic Church, took place at the Russian Centre in Thessaloniki. The program included an educational presentation, using material from the Virtual Branch of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. As part of the cultural tour "Monuments of Russian history and culture", flowers placed at the monument of St. Cyril and Methodius. Representatives of a Russian mission visited the church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, where the Divine Liturgy was held by Thessaloniki s Metropolitan, Anthimos.
The celebration of the «Defender s Day» took place at the Russian Centre in Thessaloniki. The event opened with the welcoming speeches of the Director of Russian Centre Mrs. Natalia Souponitskaia and the President and Founder of the Russian Centre Mr. Agi Kynigopoulos. Subsequently, Mr. Babis Michaelides, Director of Planning & Development of the Russian Centre, presented the history of the celebration in Russia and the event ended with the little friends of the Centre, Alexandra Gavrilidou, Fotini Antonova, Stavroula Marmara, Marina Fostiropoulou, Dana Tsirlidou, Theodora Apostolidou, Sophia and Vangelis Tsiaras, Maria Razakova, Andreas Suponitski and George Zorbas, who danced and sang Russian songs and poems and giving red roses to all men, who were present.
In a joyful atmosphere and under the spirit of Christmas, the Russian Centre celebrated its first year in the city of Thessaloniki. Many friends of the Centre attended with great interest the presentation of the Director of the Center Mrs. Natalia Suponitskaya, who referred to the activities of the Centre through the year 2010. Present were also Greek students, who are studying Russian language, representatives of the poetry community of Greece and Russian families living in Greece. The young participants recited Russian poems and the attendees were briefed on the children's competition "Create a story", an activity of the Russian Centre. Awaiting the New Year 2011, which is the 60th anniversary of the conquest of space by Yuri Gagarin, realized a presentation on the achievements of Russian space industry by the honorary member of the Russian Centre, Mr. Charalambos Michaelides. The evening ended with a Christmas cocktail.
A poetic evening dedicated to distinguished Greek poets.
The Russian Centre of Thessaloniki, with initiative of the famous poet Mrs. Ekaterini Pombortsi and in collaboration with the Consulate General of Russian Federation in Thessaloniki and the City of Panorama, organized with great success a poetic evening dedicated to distinguished Greek poets, at the hall of the Society of Macedonian Studies. The event was attended by many friends of poetry and was greeted by the founder of the Russian Centre Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos, the Consul General of Russian Federation in Thessaloniki Mr. Alexei Popov, the Mayor of Panorama Mr. Ignatius Kaitezidis. Meanwhile, the director of the Russian Center Mrs. Natalia Souponitskaia referred to the great Greek poets like Cavafis, Seferis and Ritsos, whose works have been translated to the Russian language. Presenter of the evening was the doctor, Mrs. Helen Doulianaki. The event continued with recitation by poets of Thessaloniki, including Mrs. Pombortsi and Mrs. Diamantopoulou - Philippidou, with piano accompaniment by Mr. G. Konstantinidis. At the end, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail and exchange their impressions about this wonderful evening.
Concert of the famous violinist Vadim Repin in collaboration with Thessaloniki’s’ State Symphony Orchestra and his visit to the Russian Center of Thessaloniki.
In 45th "Dimitria" of the Municipality of Thessaloniki with the initiative of the Russian Centre in Thessaloniki and the Association European Ideas Friends was held in Thessaloniki Concert Hall, a concert by the renowned Russian violinist Vadim Repin. In his appearance, famous violinist accompanied by Thessaloniki’s State Symphony Orchestra at the melodic and very demanding concerto for violin and orchestra of J. Sibelius, and the No. 1 agreement of J. Brahms. Shortly before the concert, Vadim Repin visited the Russian Center, where he met its founder, Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos and its director, Mrs. Natalia Souponitskaia. In the interview given to the Head of the Art Department of the Russian Centre, Mrs. Maria Arushanova, the famous musician described with the warmest words his impressions from Greece and especially from Thessaloniki. He emphasized the importance of these Centers for the expansion of Russian culture and he wished to the people of the Russian Centre in Thessaloniki success in continuing this noble work.
Summer Music Academy - Master Class with renowned violin teacher Zakhar Bron.
The Russian Centre of Thessaloniki organized in Ouranopolis violin seminar with the famous Russian professor Zakhar Bron, who has taught the world-renowned violinists Vadim Repin and Maxim Vengkerov. Young talented violinists from the United States, Canada, France, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, China, Korea and Japan had the opportunity to improve their capabilities and combined violin studies and holidays in the Aegean Sea. After the completion of the master-class, realized a concert in which presented works of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Paganini and other composers, performed beautifully by talented young musicians. To the participants was given diplomas by the Director of the Russian Centre Mrs. N. Suponitskaya and the head of the music department, Mrs. M. Arushanova.
Official visit of representatives of the Orthodox School of Kalouga, Russia.
After the invitation of the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki had visited our city representatives of the Orthodox School of Kalouga, which founded in 1996 with the blessing of Metropolitan of Kalouga and Borovsk Mr.Clement. Representatives from the school hosted to the monastery located in Philyro. Also, as part of their visit to our city, were accepted by the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mr. Anthimos and discussed issues of intellectual and moral education of the younger generation, according to the traditions of Russian and Greek Orthodox Church. The Director of Russian Centre N. Suponitskaya drew attention on the possibilities of learning the Russian language, particularly through closer contact between Greek and Russian churches and schools. Finally, the representatives toured to Greek Byzantine churches of our city and donated to the Russian Centre and its director the icon of the Virgin of Kalouga.
Lecture for the Great Russian painter Alexei Savrasov.
On May 15th, 2010 the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki held a lecture on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of the Great Russian painter Alexei Savrasov. The lecture took place at the premises of the Centre with the participation of children who learned about the life of the great painter, saw his tables and participated in a contest. At the end of the contest, awards were given to the children.
An event to honour women, who fought for the victory at World War II.
The Russian Centre of Thessaloniki on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of victory in World War II organized an event to honour women who fought for victory at the war. The event took place at the premises of the Centre Wednesday, May 12th, 2010, 18:00 pm. Official guest was the veteran, Mrs. Vera A. Ivanova, who was awarded. Also, were showed excerpts from documentaries of the war.
At the premises of the Russian Centre held a lecture on the occasion of 110 years since the birth of the Russian philologist and writer Lev Uspenskij. The director of the Centre, Mrs. N. Suponitskaya referred to one of his books, which in a humorous way describing the structure of the Russian language, and also, she presented the issues related to language usage and spelling in children and adolescents. Then the writer and journalist, Mrs. N. Volodina-Sarkavazi referred to concerns about the effects of the environment in the proper use of language. With a brilliant and imaginative way, she gave many examples of language errors in the use of words and expressions. Event for the National Day of Russia.
The Russian Centre of Thessaloniki on the occasion of the National Day of Russia on February 23rd organized a festive event and to honour the memory of the Russian national heroes who contributed to the liberation of the Greek nation from the invaders. The event was attended by the Consul General of Russian Federation in Thessaloniki, Mr. A. Popov and the director of the Russian Centre, Mrs. Suponitskaya. After that the children from the Russian Centre recited famous Russian poems, made an extensive historical recursion in the offer of Russian Generals in the liberation struggles of Greece and then with a background music of heroic marches presented the most important Russian medals. Meeting of Russian and Greek teacher at the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki.
On the initiative of the Russian Centre was organized a roundtable with subject: "Communicational problems in teaching the Russian language to Greek schools" in the presence of teachers of Russian language, literature and history from the school of the Russian Embassy in Athens. The discussion, in which was present the President of A.E.I.F. Mr Agis Kynigopoulos, held under the project of the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki for the spread of Russian language and culture, and knowledge of the Greek language, agreed to the program of educational and cultural events 2010. The Director of the Russian School distinguished Professor Mr. L. Smetankin promised to support students who have interest for the Russian language and culture, noting that: "The Greek-Russian relations will be strengthened and will bloom."
Visit by Consul General of Russian Federation Mr. Alexey Thessaloniki Popova at the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki.
The first official visit to the Russian Centre of Thessaloniki in 2010 held by the General Consul of the Russian Federation in Thessaloniki, Mr. Alexei Popov. The Consul General was welcomed by the President of A.E.I.F. Mr Agis Kynigopoulos and Vice President and Director of the Russian Centre Mrs. N. Suponitskaya and having a full brief on the work plan of the Centre, which will target the spread of Russian culture and language in Northern Greece. Mr Popov praised the efforts of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the Greek participation in the establishment of the Centre in the heart of Thessaloniki. Finally, he noted that this centre is an initiative that helped to further strengthen the already fraternal relations between peoples of Greece and Russia and that supports a deeper knowledge and the development of a beneficial cooperation for a better future.
